For my Project 3, I decided to do a blog combining two things I enjoy: feminism and comic books/super hero media.
I’ve been into superheroes since I was about 13 years old (Iron Man was released when I was in the eighth grade), and I’ve been reading comics since around freshman year of high school. Some things that really stuck out to me, especially as I got older and got more educated, were the way women are represented in comics (and in the MCU/DCCU movies and TV shows) and the lack of diversity as far as leading characters of color and LGBTQIA characters.
Ideally, I plan to review the titles I read from a feminist eye, and I want to review the movies and TV series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Cinematic Universe and the DC Animated Universe.
The five pages I plan to have are:
- Home Page – This would be a basic page showcasing my latest reviews and explaining what my blog is all about.
- TV and Film Reviews – This page would house links to my reviews of Marvel and DC TV shows and movies, which would be updated at least weekly with the airings of Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Agents of SHIELD.
- Comic Reviews – This page would have links to my (also weekly) reviews of the books I read, which would include bigger titles like Batman and Ms. Marvel, as well as smaller titles like DC Bombshells and Doctor Fate.
- History of Diversity in Comics – This page would take a look back at how women, characters of color and LGBTQIA characters have been represented in comics since the industry’s beginnings.
- Contact Me – This page would have my contact information, as well as links to my various social media sites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
I love super heroes and comic books and the TV shows and movies based on them, but I have issues with the way some groups of people are represented in a lot of them. I think I can say something important with this blog, and it’s probably something I will continue to keep up with even after this course is over.
