One of the websites I frequent that I think is really well designed is Devour.com. Devour essentially just compiles all of the most popular YouTube videos and sorts them for your viewing pleasure. As they state in the About section,”Using a scientifically technologically artificially intelligently awesomely robotically humanly system (we hand-pick every video on the site), Devour sifts out the best videos and posts the well-curated collection every weekday.”
I really only ever use the Latest, Popular, and Leftover tabs, but you can also view specific channels, randomize the selection, create a playlist or search for videos. The site has a very simple design and is heavy on the visual side, making it easy for users to find content they’re interested in. Most of the pages feature only the navigation at the top of the page and then large tiles that show a still-shot from the video and the title of it. Once you click on a tile, you are taken to a page with only that video so you can play it. Those pages also feature Like/Tweet buttons and some more information on the video.
I have never liked the YouTube interface because it’s too busy for me, so I’ve never spent much time on the site. Devour makes it easy for me to navigate and find videos that are actually interesting while not giving me a headache, so I can actually enjoy videos. In a social media culture where video has taken over as the favored medium, Devour is a really valuable site for staying up to date on things.
I’ve never used this website but it seems like it is pretty useful! I feel like it can help me keep up with new trends because everyone always has videos they want to show me because I never know what they’re talking about haha
I’ve never heard of this website before! I’m tempted to check it out now just because I’m kind of a lazy user when it comes to having to search whatever videos people are talking about, so I like that they put up what’s currently trending without me having to put in the effort haha.
