Hello fellow humans! My name is Victoria Lopez, I am 21 years old and my main focus is public relations. I lived in El Paso, Texas, up until I graduated from high school and moved down to San Marcos for college. I first came to college convinced I was going to be an accountant and work for a big firm, but I quickly realized that numbers were no longer my friends. My pervious roommates suggested I change my major to public relations and as soon as I did, I fell in love with wanting to brand companies, specifically start up companies with a passion of women empowerment. My dream is to move to Washington D.C., or if possible the Virginia area. I love the metropolitan lifestyle and cultural diversity.
I am taking this class because now a days, in any job, learning to design and set-up your own website or your clients website is essential. Every business is online, and if their not they’re doing it wrong. Public relations’ main job is to brand a company and an online existence is a big part of companies today because it’s easier for their clients to access them whether they are at home, in the office or on the road.
I have two favorite website I like to go to: Ted Talksย and Cultivate PR. I love ted talks, they are aesthetically appealing, but my main reason for visiting their site is for their inspiration speakers. Speakers dating back to the early 2000’s to now in 2015. They have speakers from all ages, cultures and background experiences. My favorite segments are about gender equality, women empowerment and social changes. Cultivate PR, well they are a dream job in Austin and I like to keep up with their blogs as well as events that they help host. Their website is aesthetically appealing because its very welcoming and easy to navigate and not clustered with information. Their website encourages me to go try new restaurants around austin because their photos look amazing. So delicious, you just want to grab the burger or sandwich from the website and eat it.
I had family that lived in El Paso! It’s a pretty cool city. Also, I love Ted Talks. Their videos are always intellectually stimulating.
Victoria, you sound like a PR major. I enjoyed reading your blog post because you I really enjoyed your conversational style of writing. I’ve never heard of Cultivate PR but their pictures are amazing and I really like their sleek style. Ted talks are everything. I’m all about social justice.
I grew up in El Paso too! Definitely a culture shock moving to San Marcos! I’m really glad you mentioned TED Talks! They’re so educational, but in a very accessible way and the speakers always open my mind to new things. After every TED Talk I watch I always learn something new. ๐
Ted Talks are awesome. I watch them all the time. Now the Cultivate PR site I’ve never been to. I’m going to have to try it out and see what it’s about.
It’s really awesome that you have scoped out a company you want to work for! Keep at it! ๐
