I first learned how to code in my fundamentals of digital and online media class. At first I was so nervous, but then once I got started it opened my eyes to a whole new world and my newest passion, coding. I loved coding so much that I took a took a one hour intro to coding class from Cindy Royal. Coding has honestly changed my life, at the beginning of my time at Texas State I thought I wanted to pursue a career in public relations, but now I realized that I want to pursue career in web design and social media. After graduation I want to continue on to graduate school and get a masters in digital media.
One expectation that I had about coding was that you needed to build code from the ground up. I thought everyone who coded had to hand code their own code, but what I am now realizing how much time it takes to hand code a website. It makes things easier that you can copy a code and manipulate it to get the results you want.
I recently found a web design internship with The Atkins Group in San Antonio and feel in love with their web page. The web page allows you to scroll to the very bottom so you don’t have to click on any tabs. The scrolling is smooth and effortless. Each page is simple yet contains enough content that doesn’t overwhelm the reader. I can’t wait to be able to create similar web page that is as impressive as The Atkins Group.
I really like the webpage you picked, it’s really well organized and easy to navigate. A little overwhelming on the amount of content but still totally cool!
I’ve been seeing a lot more sites use the scrolling design like the Atkins page, it really is a nice way to navigate a page.
I agree that it takes a lot of time to code a site from scratch! I like that we are doing it so that we can learn, but I also love how collaborative the coding world is!
Your sample website looks really cool!
It’s wild how our motivations can change from when we begin college.
