The School of Journalism and Mass Communication went all out for Mass Comm week.  Unfortunately I was only able to attend one panel this year due to a conference I had to attend the rest of the week. The panel I did attend was called “So You Want to be a Mass Comm Professional.” This panel was set-up very similar to speed dating, but instead of meeting a date you got to speak with a professional among a whole array of fields. It was interesting to sit down in a group with other students and ask the professional what they do and get their opinion on various topics. Many of the professionals that spoke to us were Texas State Alumni , which I think made the discussions more relatable. I was excited to learn that social media positions are becoming more and more common among all mass media fields. I’m looking forward to next years Mass Comm week.

Kym Fox was the mediator for this panel, and told us when to move to the next professional, but she also had a few words of wisdom herself.

The first person I spoke to was Videographer Gary Boyer. Even though Gary Boyer follows around NBA teams around the world to film them he talked about the importance in advancing technology and social media.

The second person I spoke with was Social Media Strategist Andrew Osegi. During his chat with students he stressed the importance of knowing how to properly write for the online media world.
