I had fun attending this year’s mass comm week because since I am a step closer to graduating, I really felt like I was more engaged in the panels I attended.

I attended Media Relations: From catching news to pitching a story panel on Wednesday, Mike Cox is a columnist for texasescapes.com and also a veteran journalist. He was was one of the reporters on scene during the UT Tower shooting in 1961. I found it interesting to hear his stories as a journalist and worked in public relations. He shared different ways to pitch a news story to keep the reader engaged and as standing out from the rest of the journalists.

Another panel I attended was #BetterOutside, featuring Earl Nottingham and Whitney Bishop of Texas Parks and Wildlife. Bishop is the social media manager for Texas Parks and Wildlife and showed analytics from their social media sites, she stressed about the importance of social media. Nottingham shared his photography he took through out Texas, which was super cool because it created a visual aspect of just how beautiful Texas is!
